Interoperability has been an industry buzzword for decades, but most of the focus has been around voice. Voice interoperability remains a key challenge today, but—as some have predicted for several years—the need for data interoperability is growing throughout the industry. In a broadband arena, IP provides a platform where this can happen, but that does not mean that applications seamlessly work together. Meanwhile, getting applications to communicate efficiently is one thing, but maintaining security throughout the communication is much more difficult task, particularly where disparate systems are involved. Where are gateways and APIs appropriate, and where are other measures needed? What are the pros and cons associated with the various methods of linking LMR and LTE systems? Will MCPTT resolve the interoperability issues associated with push-to-talk-over-cellular technologies, or will it simply add to the complexity? Panelists will examine these various challenges and share some of the strategies used today, as well as some of the potential solutions that could be available in the future.
