Time: 2:30pm – 5:30pm

Track: Interoperability & Interworking

Format: 3-Hour Workshop

Interoperability has been an industry buzzword for decades, but most of the focus has been around voice. Voice interoperability remains a key challenge today, but—as some have predicted for several years—the need for data interoperability is growing throughout the industry. In a broadband arena, IP provides a platform where this can happen, but that does not mean that applications seamlessly work together. Meanwhile, getting applications to communicate efficiently is one thing, but maintaining security throughout the communication is much more difficult task, particularly where disparate systems are involved. Where are gateways and APIs appropriate, and where are other measures needed? What are the pros and cons associated with the various methods of linking LMR and LTE systems? Will MCPTT resolve the interoperability issues associated with push-to-talk-over-cellular technologies, or will it simply add to the complexity? Panelists will examine these various challenges and share some of the strategies used today, as well as some of the potential solutions that could be available in the future.

Eric Hill  (Senior Vice President, Operations, Enterprise Wireless Alliance)

Rick Burke  (Managing Partner, Televate LLC)

Date: Tuesday, September 28

Time: 9:00am – 9:45am

Track: Private LTE/Utilities, LMR

Format: 45-Minute Power Session

Businesses of all sizes are implementing private broadband networks using unlicensed and licensed spectrum. What should these businesses or the service providers and vendors that support them take into consideration when planning, deploying, and operating private broadband networks?

Using case studies, this session examines aspects of the planning, project initiation, implementation, deployment, and operations processes, including determining which spectrum is right for the project, system design, vendor oversight and other factors that affect the success of private broadband network deployment.

Steve Miller  (CTO, The Digital Decision)

Rick Burke  (Managing Partner, Televate LLC)

Red Grasso  (Director, First Responders Emerging Technologies, N.C. Department of Information Technology)

Walt Magnussen  (Director, Texas A&M University ITEC)

Date: Wednesday, September 29

Time: 4:30pm – 5:45pm

Track: Interoperability & Interworking

Format: 75-Minute Short Course

Traditionally, most public-safety communications have been delivered via voice, but that is changing rapidly. Today, first responders increasingly get information about incidents via text, data, photo and video—and this is only expected to increase with the expected proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and cameras. But more data sources can simply mean more screens to monitor, unless the information can be integrated in a simple, effective manner. Learn how APIs, standards, gateways and other solutions can be used to disparate data sets augment each other to deliver better situational awareness to the response effort.
